The Old Town

The quaint ‘Old Town’of Javea sits on a hilltop a short distance from the sea. It is a market town with good food available in the numerous Tapas bars. It’s narrow streets include houses of traditional Spanish design, wrought iron rejas and balconies. There is the Plaza de la Iglesia with its fortified Gothic church of San Batholomé and the Town Hall. The Gothic Palace houses the Museo Arqueológico, Histórico y Etnográfico. This museum traces the history of Javea from Iberian and Roman times to the emergence of the Christian kingdoms.
